The main users whose needs are being addressed by the Titan project are the authorities and operators in charge of running the supply of public transport. This report is based on the expressed requirements of the three pilot sites for a reference data model that will help them to design an integrated information system for their companies, in which applications serving different functions, and from different suppliers, can share data stored in a database.
A data model is also seen as a way of getting a clear understanding and description of their information needs, independently of any particular implementation technology. The pilot sites considered that an integrated information system could only be successfully constructed on top of a thorough understanding and modelling of the public transport industry. The sites felt that the development of a conceptual data model should be driven more by the expressed requirements of authorities and transport operators rather than software suppliers.
